I'm Ryan 23years old on my 5th year of driving truck about 450,000kms (kilometers) under me. Grew up a farm kid went into gas station construction got laid off for winter my first year so government paid for some training so I choose to get 1A liscence. Went back to my old construction job being a pipefitter and dump truck driver (1988 Ford L9000) for another year and a half. Kinda got sick of that so I took up a job with United Rentals doing in_province flatdeck hauling, been there since. (2003 International 9200 and then replaced by a 2010 International Prostar) I hate those International trucks but its what they give me.  I also drive what they call pub crawls, drive young drunks around to different bars in a old school bus, now thats a tough driving job

I don't envy you on driving around drunks.  I have been on buses with drunks - only a matter of time before one yaks all over the floor or is uncooperative or falls down or you name it.

Kenny,

I'd rather pump septic tanks than haul drunks around.  At least you will know what you are expected to deal with from the start.  Sure hope the economy picks up soon so you younger guys have a chance for a good job.

Ya driving a pub crawl bus has its nights good and bad, guees I just at the age where having a girl wanting to shift for you and huddle up makes up for some of it bad nights.

in Saskatchewan were actually not doing so bad, the boss heard rumours I was looking at making a move to a rival company so finally gave me a lil raise up to 25.50/hr and can usually log 70 hours a week with some double time or time and a half

Your job doesn't sound bad to me.  I'm not sure what taxes/ cost of living are up there....but that would be really good money down here.  Put a good chunk of that away every month and you'll never have to worry about money.

Good luck on your Kenworth..... hopefully soon it will be "start and drive to move"

Shame....shame, somebody didn't read all the rules.  :D

Because of course I read them all right away when I joined....well within the first year or so anyway.....

So as may know United Rentals has bought out RSC for something stupid like 4 billion dollars or so. Anyways of course makes everyone little nervous about job security esp when they have double the employees in Sask. they have 8or9 tandems or semis in Sask whereas I only United. So there was a big townhall meeting where the 2nd highest person in all United came to tell us the 2 Stoon branches would be malgamated which great all seen this coming. Obviously a direct question was asked about layoffs and he went on spiel on how not a job would be cut if anything add more... So great that was 2 or so weeks ago but since Monday now 4 guys have been laid off. Lucky for me their intown semi drier was one of those 4. I'm still not exactly breathing easily and keeping a ear open for jobs. But in aying that other then this momentary stress do love my job guess see what transpires.
Luckily for me tho for as young as I am with 6 years exp, 5 being at same company I'm not afraid of having to find a new job, but I do like my job and cash flow pretty good
