Thanks, John.  That's exactly what I was looking for.

If you don't have room under the step for a lift, why not just put a dump valve on it? I pulled an old Transcraft flat back in the late 80's that was set up with an expandable spread, always ran with it set to 9 foot, it had no lift axle but instead just had a dump valve on the rear axle to help turning. It sure helped with some of the places we had to get into to pick up machine rolls in paper mills, couldn't use it while loaded as it tended to put a lot of twist on the front axle which was on a slider though....

I can't get anymore out of it, I've got both sticks hot clear up to the knobs allready.

The frames are in very good shape, only a bit of minor stress cracking at the forward axle.  I'm going to weld in some reinforcement plates on the outside web at the forward axle cross supports.  I see a ton of these crack thru the web and I don't want to have any surprises.

I'll beat Knox to this then.

If the trailer frames rust they would match a Mack

They should have the intrax suspension and there is a lift kit for them (weld on) The main thing is to make sure the frames don't rust out!
