Not the best angle, which makes this pic perfect for the WAI ! Photo from Eric Reiber.

Truck 5 - 6 ton 4 x 4 Autocar U8144 pontoon tractor or van chassis with a grab crane dropped on the back.

Too big for a U7144T

No idea on the truck, but I know what Hopto means. Hydraulic Operated Power Take Off. Made by Warner and Swasey, the same company that made Gradall.

Brian has this 1st, Warren has all the pertinent info, and Mike Pacitto knows what Hopto means - I didn't ! This truck is a 1941-43 Federal 94x43 4 to 5 ton 4x4. Federal, Autocar, and White all built 4-5 ton 4x4 tractors for the armed forces during the War. The Autocar U7144T and White 444 were identical. The Federal however, although similar looking, had a unique look with a rounded, sloping grille and the Federal cab. All 3 models had the same drivetrain with a Hercules 529 ci HXC six cylinder developing 112 hp. Thanks to Eric Reiber for these photos; the b&w is from my files.
