Well, turns out the HXs had quite a run----find listings as early as 32 (and don't know if actually the earliest) up into 1962 for an HXC...
Let us know if you're srill looking; can add a few more will-of-the-wisps to try (past my bedtime here)...

Sorry about not getting back sooner; if you're still looking:
Not many listings in my old catalogs, but they omit a lot of the heavy specialty models, like fire/emergency eqpmt, heavy (10 ton and up) etc...
Oshkosh and Walter models show up. These companies were heavily into snowplows with large engines in the carrier and separately for the blower/s. I don't know if the makes have club sites but do know a couple snowplow websites used to exist as well as fire truck sites; should come up on Google...

The big Diamond T WW II trucks used a Hercules about this size. A nice restored one displayed at our White Truck convention in Baraboo a couple weeks ago. I can find more about the owner and his contacts. He mentioned a good old salvage yard, V-H Truck and/or Danny's Trucks in Wausau, WI. The WW II truck collectors circuit might know of other contacts for big Hercules gas engines.

Was in a 38 Victor gasket catalog today, decided to check the HXs...
Seems there's a companion (??) series of engines, the GXA thru GXE that take the same set of gaskets., the bores match.. (GXA/HXA same, GXB/HXB same etc, they share piston fool'blys, the whole batch shares valves...bearings are a bit confused in my catalogs, seems there were early poured engines...
The GXs are 53/4 stroke rather than 6...have no idea if engines interchangeable, but the Herc outfits should know...

Don't know about the HXs, but can state the Herc JXA thru JXD were all made to same outside dimensions so owners could power up to bigger bore or power down for economy...
Try Jerry Biro at herculesparts.com both for that info and leads...
There's also herculesengine.com, who reportedly bought Herc's parts inventory and manufactures parts for leads...
There's also a HXDW 55/8x6...
And you might try Landis Zimmerman at olivercletrac.com and the cletrac.org (?) website as some Cletrac tractors 33-38 or so used the HXE...

Hello fellow truck members! I am looking to find a Hercules model HXE series engine. A complete engine or Lower section of the block and including the crank shaft for this truck. This engine came from a 1934 Buffalo fire truck. Any help would be APPRECIATED! Also does anyone know if the Hercules HXD series engine could be used as a replacement for this project? The HXE has a 5-3/4" bore with a 6" stroke. I believe it was rated at 932 cu.in. any help or leads are a start. I am new to this site and I can see already that their are many people with the same passion that I have. Keeping old pieces of equipment/trucks along with the history alive. A (thank you) to all the people doing this! Thank you again roksuita@gmail.com
