The instructions are pretty well correct for the era of the model kit. Cab tilt pumps were almost always to the left of the battery box (LH frame rail) mounted to a bracket on the rear spring hanger. Later on they often located it on a stack brace behind the cab when free standing exhaust systems became more the norm. The default position for a luberfiner was under the battery box but they could also be found in other places, behind the cab mostly. Under the battery box they were almost always painted since who sees it so why pay extra, but just chromed caps were somewhat popular in that location. Up to '74 the third air tank in the US (under the cab) was used for Emergency Parking Brake Release. Prior to the early 80's there were typically only two service tanks since most 3-axle trucks didn't have front brakes until then. But things like that were determined by the engineering dept. based on the specs not customer preference. |

Hello roKWiz and Swishy, thank you for your help :) the model maker instructions seem to be correct. I was just wondering how the Cab tilt mechanism can be so hidden is it easy to get there, to operate the pump?
I know "auslowe", have ordered parts there last year.

Yep the cab jack isn't that difficult to access. It faces out to the side so the jacking extension bar fits between the battery box and J step on mine with plenty of clearance to use it. I guess it would be easier to use on a Slimline cab like Swishy's. |

You could always build it as an Australia built Kenworth 123. There is a company here who specialize in accessory bits to build it as such. https://www.auslowe.com.au/
To answer your queries......Remember most pieces will be on the opposite side of a US built truck. 1.cab tilt mechanism is located on my Aussie built K125 on the side of the left chassis rail under the sleeper of the cab (in front of the battery box. 2.I did have a luberfiner fitted under the LHS (AU style) battery box but it wasn't chrome plated. However some US truck do use chrome. 3.I have 3 air tanks fitted one aux. up under the passenger side of the cab (over the LHS front wheel) and 2 primary air tanks fitted down along each chassis rails inboard of the fuel tanks. Neither are chrome.

Hello everybody,
My name is Juergen, I live in Germany, I am currently building a Kenworth K123 model kit (1:25) see, https://www.scalemates.com/kits/amt-687-kenworth--142273 I want it to build as exactly as the real Truck. However, I think a few parts have not been drawn correctly in the assembly instructions + they actually look different the parts from the kit:https://www.scalemates.com/de/products/img/2/7/3/142273-26-instructions.pdfSince there are unfortunately no Kenworth oldtimers here in Germany: could an owner of a Kenworth K123 please give me detailed pictures? (also by PN): (No. see assembly instructions) Section 4, part 12: Cab tilt mechanism: this is the hydraulic pump to swivel the cabins, is it located there on the frame? Section 7, Part 16: Luberfiner: Is it chrome-plated and is it located under the battery box? Section 9, Part 22: Auxiliary air tank: is it chrome-plated and is it located under the cabin? |
