I have a 1979 IHC Transtar II with a big cam 3, I'd like to paint the engine the original color, it's red right now. Did Cummins use red at that time ?

IIRC, back then, IH spec'd red for all engine manufacturers

I would agree, I got a Big Cam 1 that came out of a '78 Transtar and it was red, the one in my '83 was Cummins tan.
