1980 NTC-400 engine oil drain plug and coolant filter

1980 Cummings NTC-400, is this my engine oil drain? Also, I can't remove the engine coolant filter, I think it is rusted frozen. Any tricks? Thanks, Erichttp://forums.aths.org/Uploads/Images/8c68dc03-8d83-4798-b91d-0227.jpg

that's 1 of the drains....any of the plugs down low can be used.

If its too tight what we used to always do is just undo the 2 x 3/8 bolts (9/16 socket) where the oil pick up pipe attaches to the pan on the LH side.

Most times the gasket is re-usable otherwise just buy or cut a new one....to buy the part number is 157551.

As for the water filter.....punch a large screwdriver or drift through it about an inch down from the top then screw with force.....

Yeah the 1 1/4" hex head is the drain for the pan.
On spin on filters you can drive a long handled screw driver though the filter and use the leverage to remove, but in the worse cases the sheetmetal can tears, and you have to clear a way what's left of the filter until you only have the base on the head, then insert two punches in the holes in the base about 180 deg apart and a bar between them to screw off the base.
WHen going back on with the new filter a little lube of some kind will prevent the rubber gasket from "bonding" to the filter head ( which is what happened this time) makeing it easy to get off the next time around.

I got that bad boy out. Sprayed Blast, put a heater under it for about 2 hours, then a heat gun for about 2 min, and off he came.http://forums.aths.org/Uploads/Images/1563a925-dc0b-4d8e-b01b-cd78.jpg
